Nephrology

Nephrology involves the care of patients with problems related to the kidney. For this specialty, we offer regular clinic hours and inpatient care. We offer diagnosis and treatment of many conditions, including but not limited to:

  • Acute renal failure
  • Chronic renal failure
  • Glomerulonephritis
  • Hematuria (blood in the urine)
  • Proteinuria (excess protein inthe urine)
  • Medical evaluation of kidney stonepatients, including metabolic evaluation and dietary interventions fornephrolithiasis
  • Chronic care of renaltransplantation patients
  • Diagnosis and treatment ofhypertension
  • Treatment of resistant,difficult-to-control hypertension
  • Dietary counseling for themanagement of chronic kidney diseases
  • Evaluation and treatment ofelectrolyte disorders, including:
    • hyponatremia(low sodium level in the blood)
    • hypokalemia(low potassium level in the blood)
    • hyperkalemia(high potassium level in the blood)
  • Polycystic kidney diseases
  • Pyelonephritis and urinary tractinfections
  • Procedures that can be arranged:
  • Renal biopsy and interpretation
  • Renal imaging (ultrasound, CT,MRI, or nuclear scanning)
  • 24-hour blood pressure data andinterpretation
